Day Eleven: Tuesday, June 17, 2008

Day Eleven: Tuesday, June 17, 2008.
Good bye Michelle-back to Finland. Off to San Francisco
Michelle's last day. Picked up the S-10 from Autocraft. Over $1000 for tuneup and brakes. Went to Dollar Tree for workshop prizes. How can you beat a compresses "Uranus" beach towel that expands in water! Christine made ableskivers and we waited for Robert to return from Michelle's at noon before we left for San Francisco. He was over at her house to say his final goodbyes.
She was heading back to Finland-maybe for the summer, maybe for ever. He wanted to be there as she drove off. Apparent they had broken up over a week ago. But she had been such a major part of his life over his past nine months or so, he just had to see it out until the end. He brought home a whole buch of her paintings and drawings including one of a monitor lizard she had just made especially for him. He gave her his Oakland A's camouflage that that had been his symbol for the past year. A nice symbolic gesture I thought. Right before he left i found him sitting at the computer reading the poetry about leaving on her myspace and listening to the sad music it was playing and he was wallowing in his loss. It was a touching moment. I could imagine how badly he felt. I decided to let him have his space. In a few minutes Christine was there giving him a silent hug. Very poignant. She was his first love and it's hard to see that chapter end.

Off to San Francisco
It took a lot of effort, but we managed to leave for San Francisco at around 1:30. And we still forgot few things. I had booked a room at Hotel Adagio on Geary about a block from the theatre.
