San Diego: Day Two
Kate and Zoe Come to San Diego
"Journalism" teaching and more time with the advisers
"Teach the Teach" flops
Will I Stay or Will I Go?
Actually slept decently even thought I went to bed after 12 and got up before 6. I did not get up to go to the bathroom even once. The shower was an adventure. A la Columbia I had to run the water for 20 minutes to get hot water, but I managed.
As far as I know it, the solution with Kate and Zoe is that they are going to drive down here so Kate can give me some Pampered Chef stuff mom bought and then go back so Zoe can fly home out of Orange County.
The breakfast at the dorms was quite mediocre. It was better at the Best Western. Howard did thing at 8:30 and then I started teaching a long way off in the student services building at 9:30. They called the class "Journalism" which means copy, captions, and headlines. I had a problem figuring out how to use the projector in the room but I finally got it working. There wound up being about 38 kids in the room that might fit 50.
They actually were a pretty good audience but the best part was at 10:40 the carillion started up with a solid 20 minute concert. By the end we were cracking up over how long it went. It stopped for a minute and then started up again.
The two-hour adviser session also went well. I continued with my keynote on the yearbook year and the discussion among us was quite good and the time really flew by. The best idea that surfaces was getting rear sheets of the ads and the end of the year and selling them framed to the parents at the time you sell the ads. Could get $15-$20 each. At 5:30 we were supposed to have a session called "Teach the Teach" where the instructors were supposed to teach to the advisers what they had taught in class. They were to bring pizza and we were to work through dinner while the kids were at the pool party. The only problem was only two adviser made any attempt to show up. Eventually we had pizza and sat around and talked. We probably were there until almost eight. I went down stairs and talked with Courtney a bit and there is still a possibility that i could leave tomorrow. We discussed whether or not it made sense to cancel the final session on Thursday morning. We will see what Courtney and Whitney agree on. I talked with Whitney for a while. She really cracks me up and I think she is going to make it in the business. I went back to to my room and talked with Pam on Facebook and we decided to try out the yogurt place next to the Pita Pit. I had kind of a watery oreo shake but it was still fun. After that I came back to my room and have been watching The Office and writing on the blog.
