Day Twenty Eight: Friday, July 4, 2008
Happy 232nd Birthday USA!
Home Made Ice Cream and Tri Tip
Donner Fireworks

We got up at about 7:15 and eventually Christine and I went to the store to buy food for our Donner Lake Fourth of July Barbeque. I think we left at about 10 and made it up by 11:30. Both children actually seemed to be going willingly.

Heading out with both Robert and Zoe.

On the road to Donner with Ilsa.
We sent Manasa on his way and we settled in to watch the men's semifinals at Wimbledon. Robert and Zoe were both engaged and pleasant and we had some good family time.

The beautiful Zoe.

We brought most of the food from home, bet we still have to go to the Truckee Safeway to get ice and ice cream topings. We planned to have Tri-tip, corn on the cob and home made ice cream.

Robert, the ice cream man.

Grandpa teaching the grandson.

Adding ice and rock salt.

Getting the dasher out.

The finished product.

Papa gets a taste.

The final sundae.

Waiting for the fireworks with a bunch of Penrods.

The fireworks as usual were quite spectacular. Can't imagine a better place to watch them. Valerie Penrod brought an amazing assortment of baked goods ans drinks. It was the end of an era as Gordon couldn't make the walk down and he watched from the house.

After we got back the four of us watched he movie Vantage Point. Amazing that we stayed up that long, but it was good family fun.
